Community News!! - Union Baptist Church - One Love Project "Soles 4 Souls"

The Central New Jersey Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, salutes the Union Baptist Church for their initiative in collecting over 300 pairs of new shoes to distribute to the homeless and less fortunate in our community.  On Sunday, November 13, 2011 the congregation was presented with shoes that will be delivered to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), the Rescue Mission and the YMCA of the City of Trenton. The "One Love Project - Soles 4 Souls" was spearheaded by Deacon Ron Breese.  A special thank you to Dea. Breese and the Outreach Ministry of the Union Baptist Church for their effort in making the lives of our needy brothers and sisters in the community better by providing them with new shoes.  Under the leadership of Pastor Simeon Spencer, Union Baptist Church has been and continue to be a leader in reaching out to human kind in our community and region.  As Pastor Spencer prayed for the homeless and those who will receive these shoes, I was reminded of our pastors own words regarding generosity.  "To be a people of generosity:  Devotion, discipleship, worship and     maturity, at the end of the day, are all matters of the heart.  And "...where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Luke 12:34).  Our vision is to be a congregation whose generosity in the exercise of biblical stewardship of time, talent and tithe will refect our devotion, discipleship, worship and maturity.  As we are worshipping and maturing, we are looking out to tell others about Jesus and to show His love in action.  Jesus came in "word" and "deed," so we are to seek the lost in word and deed.  We proclaim the gospel of God's mercy, and we show His mercy.  Generous giving is an indispensable means to such ends, as we work to extend the Kingdom beyond these walls." 

The Central New Jersey Chapters' prayer is that those who receive these shoes will receive them in the spirit in which they were given.  That somehow, someway, God will move in the lives of these individuals and direct their path to Him. That they will walk in these shoes, not by sight, but my faith.  Knowing that God will provide food, clothes and shelter and that He promised never to leave us nor forsake us.  Yes, "Soles 4 Souls".  Thank you Pastor Spencer, Deacon Breese and the UBC church family.

"What do I do, where shall I go, what do I say, when I need rest for my soul" ... "TRUST HIM" is the blazing opening song and title cut off the Bishops Choir third album and if you're a sincere fan of good ole' Sunday morning church music, this album is a must have in your collection.  Under the direction and spiritual leadership from their pastor, Bishop Jerome Wilcox, "The Bishops Choir" is no doubt one of the East Coast's best kept secrets.  This album is truly the total package, it will encourage you to keep the faith, as you will hear on track two "He Made A Way Out of No Way" penned by new comer Brandon Watts.  You will also want to snap your fingers on the jazzy tune "Worthy Of The Praise" and lift your hands on the song "Power of the Cross".  And for all you Praise and Worship fans "Use Me" is a vulnerable song of praise and adoration.  The album really shinges with songs like "LOVE" lead by their Minister of Music, Jeanne Rawls and the Sunday morning bump "Prepare" written by Estee Bullock and lead  by director and executive producer D. Corey Shipley.  The consistent mix of powerful vocals, incredible musicianship and excellent production makes this project a pleasurable listening experience from start to finish.  "Trust Him" proves to be the best thus far of the choirs' three independently released albums ("Live At The Cathedral" and "God Has Been Good To Me").  This Church Choir hailing from Grace Cathedral church (Trenton, NJ), is making some serious noise and proving to be a choir  that is here to stay.

The renaming of Euclid Ave to Rev. Dr. John & Dorothy Gaines Way

On Saturday, October 8th, Euclid Avenue was renamed Rev. Dr. John & Dorothy Gaines Way. From left to right are Kyle Sanders (CNJC member), Mayor Tony F. Mack, Debbie Gaines-Sanders (Daughter of the late Rev. & Mrs. Gaines and Kyles' mother), Bishop John Vaughan, Jr. and Pastor Keith Marshall.

Trenton - To some he was a pastor, to others he was a mentor, and to many others he was a friend and colleague. 

But all in all, today the late pastor Rev. John Gaines and his beloved wife, Dorothy were honored at the El-Bethel Church in East Trenton Saturday morning by having a portion of Euclid Avenue renamed to Rev. Dr. John & Dorothy Gaines Way.

After living a long life of love and service, Rev. Gaines passed on in 2009.  His wife left this earth just seven weeks after his death.  In the community, Rev. Gaines was well known as being "Trenton's Pastor."  From speaking to individuals that knew him and Dorothy Gaines well, it became clear that the Gaines family was loved in the community.
